In mathematics, we have been building our knowledge of doubles to 20 and using near doubles as a tool to help with our addition skills. We know that if we see the sum 5 + 4, we can use double 4 and then add 1 to help us calculate the answer. We have also been deepening our understanding of number bonds to 20. We worked on quick recall of these facts and looked at the bonds we already know to 10, to help us with bonds to 20. For example, If I know that 6 + 4 = 10, what else do I know? I know that 16 + 4 = 20, and I know that 6 + 14 = 20.
In science we have been continuing to learn about materials, focusing our learning on their properties and why this makes certain materials good for certain jobs. We learnt some interesting new words to describe these properties. Ask your child if they can remember what the words flexible, transparent, opaque and rigid mean.
Our Brazil unit of work has culminated in the highly anticipated Hampton Pre-Prep Carnival! What a lot of fun we had, dancing our way through the School with our decorated masks to loud Samba beats! We really brought the party vibe to school!
Have a super weekend!
