In English, we became Giraffe experts! We spent time researching this magnificent animal and then used our knowledge to write fact files. Ask your child if they can share any of the facts they learned. Do you know the name for a group of giraffes? How many bones does a giraffe have in their neck? What colour is a giraffe’s tongue? What do giraffes like to eat? We spoke about the difference between writing fiction and non-fiction, and the type of word choices which may be suitable.
In mathematics, the children compared different lengths and heights, and learnt that when using a ruler, it is essential to measure from 0 cm. We began our topic on mass and volume, using the words lighter and heavier to compare mass. A lot of fun was had using cubes to balance various classroom objects on our scales.
