In maths, we began our new topic: Addition and Subtraction within 20. We started by deepening our understanding of number bonds to 20. The children worked on quick recall of these facts and explored how their knowledge of number bonds to 10 can help with bonds to 20. For example: If I know that 6 + 4 = 10, what else do I know? I know that 16 + 4 = 20, and I know that 6 + 14 = 20. Next week, we will build on this by using our knowledge of doubles to help us solve addition calculations.

Our humanities topic this half term is Brazil, and the children can now locate Brazil on a map, recognise the country’s flag, and recall several facts about it. This week, we listened to Samba music and looked at pictures of the spectacular Rio Carnival—what a feast for the senses! The class were thrilled to design and decorate their own colourful carnival masks, ready for our very own Hampton PrePrep carnival next week.

All in all, it has been a wonderfully fun and lively week. Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
