In mathematics this week the children have turned their attention to addition and subtraction up to 20. Focus has been on counting on and back, making use of our number bond knowledge to 10 to help calculate when crossing the 10. A variety of concrete resources have supported this work such as tens frames, part-whole models and number lines. We have been impressed by how adept the children are at manipulating numbers to reason and problem solve. We will be carrying on with this learning next week.
Our Brazil topic continues to bring much excitement to the classroom, and we focused this week on comparing life in Brazil to life here in England. We also learnt about the continents of the world. We definitely have some impressive geographers in Year 1!
