In mathematics, we have been building our knowledge of place value with numbers up to 50. The children have used the base 10 equipment to get to grips with the value of each digit in a 2-digit number, supplemented by number lines and the use of a 100 square, in a wide variety of activities and games.

The children have tackled a new challenge in Life Skills this week in an attempt to stretch their learning.  It helped them identify how it feels when faced with a new activity that they may find challenging.  The task was to make an origami fish! What a lot of determined children we have in Year 1.  It took some folding and re-folding, over 2 sessions, however the results are impressive and the children were incredibly proud of their efforts.
