In maths, we have been comparing and ordering numbers to 50. We have also had lots of fun skip counting in 2s and 5s, enjoying all the patterns we can spot. It is really exciting to see how much more confident the children are with understanding the value of the tens and the ones in 2 digit numbers.

In science, we completed our materials topic by tinkering with a range of materials in order to build a sturdy house for The Three Little Pigs!  We used a combination of dried spaghetti, marshmallows, Lego bricks, and bundles of straws to build our constructions.  We tested to see whether the pigs fitted inside the house, whether the house had a roof and whether it withstood the huff and puff of the wolf! As you can see from our photos, we had great fun and lots of success!

Year 1 also spent some time reflecting on how we grow and the changes we go through, as part of Children’s Mental Health Week. We discussed which people we would turn to when things get tough or when we need support. Then we created our very own Support Balloons, considering all the people who help us to grow, stay safe, and be happy.

We have had an action packed half term and seen so much progress with the children’s learning.  Have a wonderful half term break and we look forward to seeing you all fresh and raring to go on 21st February!
