In maths we have been furthering our knowledge of counting in sets of 2s, 5s and 10s and are working hard to develop quick rote counting up to 100.  We have been using this knowledge and quick recall to count groups of real objects more quickly. We have also been talking about sharing in to equal groups and that odd numbers of objects cannot be divided equally between two, but that even numbers of objects can be. This is a really good skill that could be practised at home – using practical objects or foods, for example – we have 15 strawberries, can these be shared equally between you and your brother?

In science, we have been thinking about ways in which our differences make us unique. We learnt about how eye colour is determined and completed a pictogram of our class eye colours.  The most common eye colour in Year 1 is brown.
