Our maths learning has focused on using a number line to delve more deeply into numbers to 20 – we have been busy finding numbers one less and one more than a given number, finding all the numbers greater or smaller than a given number, estimating where numbers might sit on an empty number line, and then proving how we know we have made a “smart guess”.
We have revisited the < = > symbols and used these to compare numbers and number sentences.
In science, Year 1 became magnet detectives! We investigated a variety of objects to predict and test whether they were magnetic or not which was a lot of fun. We learnt about the north and south pole of a magnet, and used the words attract and repel to describe what we observed was happening.
