In maths, we have been learning to use a range of strategies for subtraction – first, we used our number bond knowledge; If I know 7-4 =3, I also know that 17-4 = 13. We also practised counting back using a number line. We talked about finding the difference – and looked at towers of cubes to help us with this. Finally, we looked at related facts to 20;
Practising a range of strategies to complete addition and subtraction calculations helps the children find a method that suits them best.
Our Fun with French session at the Prep was a real highlight this week! Along with children from other schools, Year 1 were taught some key French phrases by Madame Houghton. We played games with the Year 6 boys, to rehearse our skills, and then had to order some delicious food using our newly learnt French phrases; choosing jus d’orange or jus de pomme. Très bien la classe!
