In maths, we have been focusing on subtraction, learning all the different vocabulary associated with this number operation. I was pleased to see the children’s subsequent work in this area.
The children completed their science topic – movement and forces – by learning about Isaac Newton and gravity, the force that pulls objects downwards towards earth. They investigated what would happen if they varied the mass of a spinner (which the children made in class) when dropped to the ground. Paper clips were added to the spinner and the children observed the speed the spinner fell. They also learned how to record their results scientifically.
Year 2 continued their geographical enquiry, to compare two differing localities (Hampton, UK and Rusuzumiro, Rwanda). This week the children learnt how to identify the human and physical features before getting ready to investigate how the two localities are the same and how they differ. They are also getting very excited for their African Workshop, which takes place on our return to school in November!
Finally, as we get ready for our well-earned break, we revealed our plans for the 2024 Christmas production, where Year 2 take a leading role. Scripts have been sent home so that we can familiarise ourselves with the story and maybe start to learn some lines. But fear not, there’s plenty of time! Enjoy some quality rest and recuperation and we look forward to seeing you back, fresh and raring to go in two weeks’ time.
