In English, now that we have completed our diary entries as Lila, expressing her thoughts and feelings about the magical “Secret of Rain”, the children embarked on a new key text, “Mama Panya’s Pancakes” by Mary and Rich Chamberlin. It is a delightful African story about the rewards of sharing, offering a message that is universal. Along the way, the children have been learning about verbs, including imperative verbs, so that we are ready to write our very own set of instructions to make pancakes next week!
In our humanities lesson the children showed off the incredible amount of knowledge they have amassed so far regarding the African continent. Many of the children can list all of the African countries off by heart! This week we looked carefully at the human and physical features found in Hampton, England, before studying those found in Rusuzumiro, Rwanda.
We continue exploring the African theme in art with Mrs Murphy. So far, we have collaged lion’s head and made stripey zebras. Next up we will be drawing giraffes.
Rehearsals for the Christmas production are going well, so please do keep up the learning of lines for the play. Wishing you all a relaxing and fun weekend!
