Bicycle Proficiency has been full speed ahead for our Year 6 pupils, with the boys swapping the playground for the local roads as they put their cycling skills to the test!

Across the week-long training, pupils have been learning how to ride safely, confidently and responsibly in real-life situations. One of the boys’ key focuses has been mastering COOP – Communication, Observation, Positioning and Priority – helping them learn how to communicate clearly, spot potential hazards, position themselves safely on the road and understand who has priority at junctions and crossings.

Before heading out, the boys also became bike detectives, carrying out their ABCD safety checks each morning. From checking the Air in their tyres and testing their Brakes, to making sure the Control and Chain were working properly and completing the all-important Drop Test, pupils quickly learnt that safe cycling starts before you even get on the bike.

Out on the roads, the boys practised signalling clearly, navigating junctions, performing controlled U-turns and confidently passing cars. With every ride, the boys have become more aware of the world around them and even more enthusiastic about cycling!
