Year 3 High Ashurst Residential Trip

News From Mr Salt - Head of Games

What a beautiful week of weather it has been and I’m certain it will last until July…! The boys in Year 3, 5 and 6 have made the most of it, playing their first fixtures against Claremont Fan Court School. It was a dominant performance by the U11 As and Bs, with the As winning by 9 wickets, the Bs by 110 runs and the Cs and Ds winning and drawing, respectively. The U10s hosted Claremont and produced some good results. A draw for the As, a win for the Bs and Cs and a loss for the Ds. There were some tight results by all-accounts so well done to the boys for holding their nerve. The Year U8s travelled to Claremont for their first taste of pairs cricket at Hampton Prep, so we look forward to hearing how they get on.

A Word From Mrs Murphy

We are extremely proud to report that twenty-four young runners from Years 1 and 2 took part in the TCS London Mini Marathon on Saturday 26 April, alongside 18,000 other runners on the 40th anniversary of the event. It was truly spectacular with the children concluding their one-mile race along The Mall, just as the adult participants did the following day. Determination, courage and tenacity were displayed in abundance! Our heart-felt thanks to Mr Singh and Ms von Allemann for co-ordinating the event, and special mention to all parents for their unstinting support on the day. Huge congratulations to the following children: Year 1 - Ed, Finn, Oscar W, Francis, Zayn and Anton and in Year 2 - Seby, Charles, Rafe, Cameron, Kostya, Noah, Henry M-J, Henry H, Sebastian G, Arjunah, Varun, Shreyan, Oscar S, Ethan, Kian, Lucas, Bertie and Oscar F.

Reception

This week in Reception we have been thinking about our topic Mindfulness & Water, taking a closer look at water, learning about the seas and oceans and the many sea creatures that live in them. We enjoyed writing our own ‘sea creature riddles’. Writing clues describing in detail facts about our chosen sea creature. We then covered our drawings with sea flaps to hide the sea creature and had great fun guessing everyone’s choices!

Year 2

Year 2 are all set to become rainforest experts with the launch of the new summer term geographical topic! They demonstrated excellent recall of their world continent knowledge, acquired in the Autumn term, and were therefore excited to locate rainforests on a map in the various tropical climates. The children shared their current understanding of what a rainforest actually is and then we discussed what we would like to find out about rainforests over the coming weeks.
