French is an important part of our curriculum. We aim to teach, wherever possible, in the target language, as well as ensuring French lessons contain a wide variety of different tasks and activities. These include role plays and dialogue preparation and presentation, some initial language analysis and some more traditional activities designed to ensure pupils are learning and remembering a relevant range of vocabulary. We look at and study French culture and life and the francophone world beyond the boundaries of Europe.
Along with developing an interest in French, through learning another language pupils are better able to understand how their own language functions. We hope that our pupils will leave us by the end of Year 6 sufficiently curious about and engaged with French to carry a love of the language with them to their senior school. We aim to instil in them the foreign language learning skills that will enable them to pick up and enjoy any additional language in Year 7 and beyond.
