The L.I.O.N. Award, our bespoke leadership skills development programme in the Prep, continues to feature in the boys’ lives this term. There is a deadline for boys in Years 4 and 5 next week, for them to submit their self-led independent research project and the Year 3 boys have until the end of this term to complete their independent work in their creativity portfolio.
As ever, learning to lead is something I strongly believe we as a school have a clear responsibility to cultivate. I am not sure about this business of ‘natural born leaders’, as that has always felt a bit too limiting to me. I am fond of saying to prospective (and current!) parents that we have room for all sorts of boys at our School. Some are a bit louder than others, some are quieter and rather shy and there are plenty in the middle. Irrespective of the differences in the boys’ personalities, how they might develop into excellent leaders in part as a result of their commitment to the L.I.O.N. Award, is an aspect of school life we all greatly enjoy keeping a close eye on here.
