As I was able to explain to Prep parents in person on Monday evening, we were very excited to launch our new Real-World Learning Skills in this week’s Prep assembly. Mr Ford and the Year 6 Curriculum Ambassadors guided boys in Years 3 – 6 through our new initiative designed to augment our already strongly knowledge-rich curriculum.
While our lessons remain rigorous, engaging and fast-paced, we recognise that preparing pupils for life beyond the classroom is just as important as what they learn within it. The dispositions and habits they develop here are not only essential for thriving in lessons today, but also form the foundations for lifelong learning and success. The values that Mrs Howard is leading on developing this year, as per the Bulletin last week, are of course neatly knitted into this overall approach.
Following careful thought, professional collaboration and guidance from experts in this field, we have created a framework of skills that sits alongside our curriculum and works in joyful concert with it!
These interconnected skills will be taught intentionally, helping pupils understand how and when to use them, with the aim of deepening subject knowledge even further. In turn, we hope the boys in the Prep will develop their independence and self-awareness with regards to their learning.
To find out more about how this will look in the classroom, please do visit this page on your son’s SharePoint (please note your son’s login details must be used) and ask him to talk to you about it all. We would be very happy to hear your feedback!
