We are keen on the occasional TED talk here, as a staff body, not least because of the way each one serves as a window into other fascinating people’s lives, but also because plenty of them have a specific educational focus. On the staff-only day before the pupils returned this term, we all enjoyed watching Ramsay Musallam’s TED talk, in which the acclaimed American educator explains his views on the top three aspects of effective education that mean a great deal to him and which he believes lead pupils to make excellent progress. We all considered what we value here at Hampton Pre-Prep & Prep and what we believe leads to the same. I shared my ambition for my teaching colleagues this term, loosely framing that as The Three ‘I’s.
I know from my experience alone that pupils make terrific progress at our school when:
- Developing huge interest in what is being taught and what is being learnt by both teachers and pupils alike is the foundation for every lesson, every day.
- Lessons here are crafted and taught such that every moment in every one of them is an opportunity for every child here to dig into and relentlessly explore their own imagination.
- We remain mindful of our independence, in terms of developing curriculum content, and exploit that to the full so each lesson for every pupil is very exciting and challenging in equal measure.
Do please come to me if ever you feel inclined to share your top tips, as parents, for what you know helps your child learn best. Successful school life for our boys and girls includes successful partnerships with parents at home. We shall always be very happy to hear from you in this regard.
