It has been so great to see the boys in action since we retuned to school ten days or so ago. I know we are all looking forward to strengthening our relationships with each other and making the most of our friendships this year, as well as making some new ones. However, I have been reminded this week about the perils of leaving one’s own school for five minutes (well, two days actually – I was assisting with the inspection of another school in Bedfordshire this week – always a fascinating experience) as whilst I was away both Mrs Tinkler and Mr Ford had clearly been rubbing their hands together with glee and getting up to all sorts of mischief in my absence! This was primarily evidenced by our lovely Year 3 boys who, upon my return to school this morning, were falling over themselves to tell me that they had enjoyed an excellent time in my study whilst I was away. They had been in to sit on my chair, they had had a good look at the motivational quotes (the non-cheesy variety I hasten to add) and pictures I have on my walls and had generally wondered what on earth I get up to all day, all at the behest of Mrs Tinkler who had merrily led them on their journey of discovery as part of a Life Skills lesson centred on ‘thinking about who we are’. I am far from vexed by this of course, quite the opposite in fact as I am delighted that however colleagues choose to go about it, we make sure at our school we all get to know each other really well and think about what makes not just ourselves but those around us tick.
