There are weeks when the world simply hands you a gift, and this has been one of them. Our assembly theme this term ‘The People on Our Planet’ has never felt more apt than in a week dominated by the Football World Cup! Football, of course, does something rather remarkable: it brings the map to life. Suddenly, nations that might otherwise remain abstractions on a page become real as their colours, their stories and their footballing identities are all on display and, if you are very keen on football, they remain front and centre as the competition unfolds.
3J gave us a wonderful World Cup assembly last week, and Mrs Murphy and her team wove the tournament beautifully into Pre-Prep assembly at the start of this week. Yesterday’s football kit themed mufti day was a great success and the funds raised will go to Water Aid from our Pre-Prep families and to the British Heart Foundation from the Prep boys.
Tomorrow the HPPPA Summer Festival, which I am reliably informed will be World Cup themed, shall be a fitting finale to a wonderfully football-flavoured week. I look forward to it enormously, as I do every year. It remains one of those rare occasions when the whole community can come together, relaxed and happy, and remembers what a very good place this is to be! Mrs Jepson and Mrs von Allemann have, as ever, brought this event together with their characteristic grace, generosity of spirit, and good humour, and I want to thank them both now, in advance and wholeheartedly for their incredibly hard work. Do please come along tomorrow because the funds raised on the day allow the HPPPA to invest in so many of the activities and experiences that make life at Hampton Pre-Prep & Prep that bit more special for every child.
