Ahead of events scheduled to take place across the nation this weekend on Remembrance Sunday, the Chairman of the Hampton Trust and the Vice-Chair, Pupils from Years 2 – 6, parents and staff attended our Act of Remembrance on the yard at the Prep this morning. Boys in the Prep have been writing some poetry in English lessons this week, inspired by events arising from either the First or Second World War. Mrs Sheaff and Mrs Sunderland, along with selected boys who read their finished poems, provided an excellent background in assembly this morning to our Act of Remembrance, delving into history and outlining the events that led to both World Wars. Mr Salt and Mr Clive, currently both teaching in the Prep, are both former members of HM Armed Forces and they spent time with the Year 6 boys talking to them about their personal experiences of military life, including their time on tours of duty in Afghanistan. It has been a moving day for us here, as a consequence. Do please encourage some age appropriate discussion at home this weekend as the nation takes time to reflect and give thanks. This will helpfully follow and I hope reinforce the gratitude we expressed at school this morning for those who went before us, and gave up their lives for our liberty.
